Effective immediately all worship at St. Michael & All Angels' has been cancelled for sixty (60) days. Our church facilities are also closed for the same period of time, except to parish staff. Our Cathedral, because of its public role, will remain open for prayer and respite only. We believe it is important to embrace our public social responsibility following the lead of public health officials. Many other dioceses in Canada have made the same difficult decision.
One of the things we are learning is that slowing the progress of covid-19 depends on limited personal contact. The work of the church will continue in a variety of other ways as we learn to stay meaningfully connected with one another. Dawna was at the Cathedral this morning, helping to record morning prayer and discussing how we, as a diocese, can pray and worship and connect with each other through these days of isolation. Our Diocesan Post editor, Susan Down, will be sharing some videos and writings from around the Diocese and they will be available on the Diocesan and Cathedral websites.
Of course, it is particularly unsettling for us, as the season of Lent, Holy Week and Easter are so significant in our lives together. We will be finding ways to share in worship around the season and the Cathedral will be live streaming some concerts as well.
Another concern is helping to care for one another - if you or someone you know and love needs assistance with groceries or other practical things we have some people who are not in vulnerable categories who are willing to assist. We are still working to organize this system, if you have organizational skills and a willingness to help with this please let us know.
Caring for each other is one of our strengths and we will work at finding new ways to do this.
We will continue to send out our 'eblast' each week and updates in between to keep us all connected.
If you do not already recieve our emails and would like to please email us at [email protected]
and we will add you to our list.
